They had barely gone a few meters when Kenya, a trans woman sex worker, ran to the car in response to Paola's cries for help. Upon arrival, three firearm detonations announced the agony of her friend who lost her life next to her attacker. That scene was recorded on Kenya's cell phone. Kenya experienced Paola's death as her own. Days before, she had dreamed of dying and asking for forgiveness for her sins. Days later, Kenya begins a struggle that leads her to travel through the darkest corners of loneliness, abandonment, and violence that trans women experience. Guided by her natural vocation to help, Kenya undertakes the task of assisting her companions in death, establishing a farewell ritual between songs, alcohol and prayers; seeking to accompany them in the absence of her families. Kenya's life will be shared between sex work, her house, wakes and street protests. In an effort to find answers to the abandonment that Paola suffered in death, Kenya makes the decision to travel to the south of the country in search of her friend's family without imagining that this trip will lead her to meet her pain and fear. to see herself reflected in that tragic ending. In her walk, Kenya manages to build a struggle based on a deep love for life and affection for her community, which will make her gain visibility and public recognition; and that will allow her to make her dream come true: to found a shelter for trans women in honor of her murdered partner.

Director's Statement
“Kenya” is an intimate portrait of a transgender female sex worker whose fate changes when faced with the transfeminicide of her sex worker partner. I came to this story with the intention of talking about the violence that trans women experience in Mexico, but the struggle in Kenya overcame violence and overcame all the systemic and structural limits that keep these women on the margins of society. "Kenya" is a film that brings us closer to a world full of darkness, which little by little is filled with light through the actions of the protagonist, her conviction to fight, and her humanity. "Kenya" is an intimate and powerful portrait that gains dimension and strength as this story progresses, which in its bowels reveals the violence experienced by trans women in Mexico, this being the country with the second most hate crimes due to transphobia in the world.
