Nabi, a veteran firefighter, prided herself for living a successful life, until one day her child, Hankyeol, comes out to her by saying: “Mom, I want to get a mastectomy.” Meanwhile, Vivian, a flight attendant of 28 years, sheds tears after reading her son, Yejoon’s, letter: “I’m gay.” Nabi and Vivian’d never even heard of the term “LGBTQIA+” during their entire lives when Hankyeol and Yejoon started opening up their various problems. Facing the reality that their children are struggling, what would two mothers do?

Director’s Statement

I feel grateful for the audiences those who visit the theaters to watch this film. I hope people will watch it with their parents.

I believe we will be empowered and able to take a proud step forward despite any attacks of hatred if those who are not necessarily a person of LGBTQ+ but willing to learn more about social minorities and queers and to raise their voice with us come watch the film.

Director’s Bio

BYUN Gyu-ri (she/her)

A Member of the media activism collective PINKS since 2016. <Play on>, her first feature-length documentary featuring podcasting irregular workers in telecommunication equipment made her win two Audience Awards at the 17th SIDOF 2017 and 22th INDIEFORUM in 2017. She has been filming documentaries with PINKS, exploring the possibility of communication and solidarity on the basis of feminism.
